Securing your data
Monday, 29 June 2009 – 14:30The lifestyle of today really produces a lot of data of all kinds; photos, documents, music and movies. As an individual you have a lot of choices to store the data and they are differing on complexity and cost.
The solution I’ve chosen is to use a home NAS server, The Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ is the one getting my vote this time! I’ve previously tried out the Synology NAS solution but after it crashed the filesystem twice (yes it hurts) I left it in the waste basket.
The setup will be;
- Netgear ReadyNAS NV+
- 4 1TB Western Digital drives
- Raid setup (have not decided to use X-raid or “plain” Raid 5 yet)
- Squeezecenter – for playing music on my Squeezebox
- Subversion – version history is nice!
- Remote backup, possibly Time Machine
I’ll post more information when I get the hands on it!
